Best League of Legends Players

This has been a big year for the League of Legends competitive scene. The World Championship match between FunPlus Phoenix and G2 Esports was a barn-burner to beat all, and every one of the teams that competed in the tournament gave everything they had to try and come out on top. To memorialize the tremendous performances we’ve seen this year, we wanted to highlight some of the best League of Legends players to ever get into the game.

Karsa isn’t one of the best-known players, but he’s always been among the most talented League of Legends players. He started his career back in 2014, and half a year later, he was jungling for the iconic Flash Wolves. His team went on to dominate the LMS and represent the league at international tournaments for three years in a row, in no small part thanks to his mechanical prowess and objective-focused playstyle.

In 2018, Karsa played for Royal Never Give Up. His controlled approach to the game turned out to be a great fit for the Chinese powerhouse, and Karsa made a career of strangling his opponents in the jungle. These traits alone make him a great number 20 on our list.

19. Best League of Legends Players 2019: sOAZ

Source: Twitter/ @sOAZ

sOAZ is a top laner from France and has been playing competitive League of Legends since 2010. With few exceptions, he’s pretty much always been the best player from his region. He has a great mind for the game, which allows him to remain a threat regardless of balance changes and meta shifts that affect other players.

sOAZ’s teammates can count on him to outmaneuver their opponents and break open the game with a perfect teleport or initiation. He may not be the flashiest, but he’s a great utilitary player. Considering how many things he excels at, any team would be lucky to have sOAZ on their roster.

18. Best League of Legends Players 2019: Mata

Mata is probably the best support in the history of League of Legends. During the immortal Samsung White era, he developed a revolutionary macro paradigm and reshaped the competitive meta almost entirely by himself. While he’s never quite recaptured that level of glory, he’s still one of the most formidable players around.

When he left Korea, Mata made a name for himself as a top-tier shot caller by working with his Vici Gaming and Royal Never Give Up teammates. This year, Mata joined the South Korean team T1 and dominated the domestic competition, securing a first-place finish in the 2019 LCK Spring Split. He’s clearly still got what it takes to mix it up with the best.

17. Best League of Legends Players 2019: Bjergsen

Since his debut with the Copenhagen Wolves, Bjergsen’s been establishing himself as a future hall-of-famer. His time with Team SoloMid as the resident “immovable object” has made it clear he’s the best mid laner in his region, and he even earned the title of “the North American Faker.” Though he hasn’t quite enjoyed international success, he’s still one of the greats.

Bjersen’s mechanics are good enough to stand up to the top League of Legends players in the world. But his real strength is his consistency, and no matter the stage or opponent, his teammates can count on him to deliver. Expect him to climb up our list in future installments as he hones his already considerable talent.

16. Best League of Legends Players 2019: Kiin

Last year, Kiin received a lot of criticism for his performance at Worlds 2018. But that doesn’t change the fact that Kiin is the most versatile top laner in South Korea. His limitless champion pool and refined mechanics make his team, Afreeca Freecs, incredibly strong. In 2019, he’s done a lot to restore himself to the top of the heap.

With a carry, Kiin will pummel his opponent while avoiding enemy ganks and finding the perfect teleport timing. With a tank, he’s a fearless initiator and an almost unbreakable shield for his carries. Kiin is always up for whatever his coach says, and he can always fill the right role on his team. This is a player you want to have at your back.

15. Best League of Legends Players 2019: Doinb

Source: Twitter/ Doinb

While he’s not as well-known to western fans, Doinb’s a true icon in his region. The man’s mechanics are top-notch, but it’s his ruthless aggression and creative problem-solving that allow him to get the upper hand on some of the best mid laners out there. Doinb also has a ton of pocket picks at his disposal, making it almost impossible to force him into an unfavorable matchup.

After years of minor league success, 2019 saw Doinb finally make his way to the international circuit. While he is clearly a very talented player, some say he lacks the clutch factor to take his playstyle to the next level. Like Bjergsen, we may be seeing the rise of a new superstar player who will top our list in years to come.

14. Best League of Legends Players 2019: Ruler

Source: invenglobal.com

Ruler has always been a stable, yet truly unforgettable team fighter. While he began his career spending a lot of time in his mid laner’s shadow, at just a couple of years later, Ruler is a top contender for best marksman in the world. The man’s laning is tight, and he takes every opportunity he can get to contest CS and harry his opponents.

Ruler is also well-known for his ability to dodge enemy spells and damaging charts. He’s also known for his consistency, as he’s almost never the reason why his team loses a game. No matter how bad things get, his teammates can rely on Ruler to hit his power spikes and give his enemies a hell of a lot to deal with in the teamfight.

13. Best League of Legends Players 2019: Chovy

Chovy entered the league last year and quickly established himself as one of the best mid laners in Korea. His aggressive playstyle was uncharacteristically calculated for such a new player. While he had both the strategy and the ability to go for solo kills, he’s always at his deadliest when he’s shifting his focus to teamfighting and working alongside his jungler.

Chovy’s dominance is slightly undermined by the fact that he isn’t always able to bring out his A-game in the playoffs of important tournaments. Even at his worst, however, Chovy is better than most LCK mid laners. Only time will tell if he ever gets a chance to prove himself worthy of being higher on our list of top LoL players.

12. Best League of Legends Players 2019: Jankos

Source: YouTube/ TheShotcaller

Jankos, the great Polish jungler, spent a considerable chunk of his career playing for teams that didn’t live up to his potential. Unfortunately, this kept him from the spotlight for far too long. It was only when he joined G2 Esports, who made it to the World Championship this year, that the LoL community realized how valuable he really is to a team.

Even when squaring up against esports players around the world, Jankos still finds a way to deliver some clutch performances. His knack for pathing makes sure he’s always a step ahead of his competitors. On top of that, his strict mechanics mean he can pull off important, sometimes game-deciding, moves. This was his best year so far, and what a year it was.

11. Best League of Legends Players 2019: Doublelift

Source: Twitter/ TLDoublelift

Doublelift is the pride and joy of the North American LoL circuit. Like many top-tier AD carries, he started his esports career as a mechanical monster. Back then, his decision-making was not all it could have been, but he made up for it by pulling off some seemingly impossible outplays.

Over the years, Doublelift made sure to correct his weaknesses. These days, he’s a true veteran and one of the most famous and formidable League of Legends players, not just in North America, but in the entire world. In 2019, Doublelift played an important role in helping Team Liquid defeat Invictus, the world champions, and make it all the way to the MSI finals.

10. Best League of Legends Players 2019: CoreJJ

CoreJJ spent his first two years playing AD carry for teams like Quvic E-Sports and Team Dignitas. It wasn’t until he joined the Samsung Galaxy team and switched his role to support that CoreJJ made a name for himself as one of the best League of Legends players in the world.

Whether he’s protecting his carries, setting up teamfights, or roaming all over the map, CoreJJ meets all the criteria of a Grade A support player. His biggest strength is lighting up the map and impeding enemy vision, making him an especially difficult opponent on the Rift. Combine that with the fact that 2019 was a banner year for Team Liquid, and CoreJJ has proven that he’s a rising talent.

9. Best League of Legends Players 2019: Wunder

Source: Twitter/ G2wunder

In 2016, Wunder qualified for the EU LCS Spring Split as a member of the Danish Splyce team. He quickly proved that he’s a talented top laner, but it was only last year, when he joined G2 Esports, did everyone see the extent of his mechanical abilities. These days, Wunder is a textbook definition of a carry top laner.

Wunder’s champion pool is massive, and his game sense is quick enough to make him dangerous to any player he’s up against. With Wunder’s help, G2 destroyed the 2019 LEC Spring Split to qualify for the Mid-Season Invitational. There, Wunder’s carry play and Pyke pocket pick played a big part in his team winning the tournament.

8. Best League of Legends Players 2019: Perkz

Perkz also made his EU LCS debut in 2016 with G2 Esports. Due to his razor-sharp mechanics and unbelievable killer instinct, his team was able to win the next four titles in a row. In the years since then, he’s become a true veteran, and likely hit his peak as a mid laner in 2018 when he made it to the Worlds semifinals. Sadly, he fell to the eventual champions, Invictus Gaming.

Defying logic, Perkz—one of the strongest mid laners in the entire game—switched to the AD carry role in order to open up a spot for another mid laner on his team. Perkz then became a legend by transforming into the best marksman in Europe and winning the 2019 MSI in his first year as a professional AD carry.

7. Best League of Legends Players 2019: Tarzan

Tarzan, appropriately, is king of the jungle. Much like his teammate Chovy, he entered the league as an untested player but took to his role with such skill and passion that even veteran players couldn’t help but feel tested by his abilities. His ganks and initiations are the key to Griffin’s aggression, and his teammates can always count on Tarzan to pull through in make-it-or-break-it moments.

Tarzan has a special talent for tracking the enemy jungler. He always seems to place himself in the right place at the right time. He also has zero issues finding invades, setting up counter ganks, and totally outmaneuvering his enemies around the map.

6. Best League of Legends Players 2019: Deft

Source: invenglobal.com

Deft is a mechanical prodigy and repeatedly cements his reputation as a one-man-army. His unique combination of game knowledge and killer instinct makes him the focal point of nearly every teamfight. His laning is quite remarkable, as he’s always able to find a window for a bold trade or to force a 2v2 kill.

In earlier years, Deft’s aggressive playstyle made it easy to pick him off in the late game. These days, though, the only thing keeping him from being in the top five on our list is that he’s too interested in making the game all about himself. This is the right mindset for a star player, but it can also cause his teammates to redirect their efforts to him. Maybe next year, we’ll see if he changes his approach.

5. Best League of Legends Players 2019: TheShy

Source: Twitter/ theshy991111

TheShy tends to overwhelm his opponents with aggression within the first minutes of the game. He plays with zero fear or hesitation. For any other high-level laner, this kind of style would be too risky, but for TheShy, it’s all about kill or be killed. Considering his mechanical skill is sharper than pretty much any laner in the game, he typically makes this bold strategy pay off.

TheShy is also one of the few laners that is able to masterfully incorporate splitpushing into his strategy. His ability to come out on top in 1v2 skirmishes is a highlight of his gameplay, and it makes him a one-of-a-kind player. 2019 might not have been as strong a year for him as some of his past years, but he’s still undoubtedly one of the best.

4. Best League of Legends Players 2019: Caps

Caps’ talent is so unbelievable that he routinely comes up with CS leads and solo kills against the best mid laners in Europe. At first, his abilities were undercut by his shaky decision-making. Nevertheless, Caps worked hard to refine his playstyle and was able to go from a flashy though unreliable mid laner to the centerpiece of his team’s strategies.

If left alone, Caps has the skill and confidence to take over the game. If his opponents try to shut him down, his teammates will go unchallenged in the side lanes. These traits led Caps to a second-place finish at Worlds 2018, and this year, he left Fnatic to join G2 Esports. Though many criticized him for abandoning such a successful team, Caps put these doubts to rest by claiming his first international trophy at the MSI 2019.

3. Best League of Legends Players 2019: Uzi

Source: new.qq.com

Uzi combines mechanical skill and mental talent. He is the best AD carry in the world, challenging his foes with perfect positioning and immaculate precision. For much of his career, he struggled to earn an LPL title, but his victory in the Spring Split in 2018 gave him the win he craved.

Maybe the most impressive thing about Uzi is that he achieved a level of greatness that few ever achieve while dealing with health problems. He even had to go on the Worlds 2017 stage a day after getting drips for his wrist and joint pains at the hospital. Still, whenever RNG find themselves in trouble, they know they can always fall back on Uzi, and 2019 proved that this still holds true.

2. Best League of Legends Players 2019: Rookie

Source: dotesports.com

In 2018, Rookie took a serious shot at being the best League of Legends player in the world. This player’s individual skill was so overwhelming that he spent the entire tournament bullying world-renowned mid laners as if they were new to the game.

This year, Rookie was the pillar of Invictus Gaming. Whether he’s teamfighting, splitpushing, or playing around his teammates, he does everything he can to set his team up for the win. Even when Invictus was dealt a huge defeat at the 2019 Mid-Season Invitational, Rookie was playing like a Grade A mid laner.

1. Best League of Legends Players 2019: Faker

Source: Twitter/ faker

I know, I know. It’s always Faker. But this gamer is a competitive mastermind who never fails to climb to the highest LoL players rankings. His dominance is so undeniable, it’s as if he isn’t real. But Faker is real. His presence on a team can cause his enemies to totally abandon their strategies in order to take him out.

Faker, also known as the “Unkillable Demon King,” routinely finds one playmaking opportunity after another, especially in the late game. If T1’s mid laner secures a lead, Fake always finds a way to break open the map. His solo accomplishments are boosted by a spotless competitive record, and until he gives up the game for good, it’s hard to imagine anyone other than Faker topping our list of the best League of Legends players for any year.
