20 Highest-Rated FIFA Players of All Time: Who’s the True G.O.A.T?

Highest-Rated FIFA Players

The FIFA franchise has been around for a long time; the soccer video game series has transformed throughout its lifetime, too. FIFA 2000, for instance, featured classic teams, where users could choose to play as the greats like Maradona and Pelé. And then there’s the fast-paced, 360-degree dribbling FIFA we have come to know over the past ten years. So then how, you may ask, do you pick the best players in the history of the franchise to play as? The answer is that you don’t. You merely have to look at the ratings to find out.

Coming up are 20 of the highest-rated FIFA players of all time—so you can play as the best, and be the best.

20. Highest-Rated FIFA Players of All Time: Dele

We love an excellent come-up story in soccer, and Dele’s evolution in FIFA is one to remember. While perhaps not the highest-rated FIFA player, he is one who has climbed the ranking ladders over the past few years, and for that, we feel looking at the 23-year old midfielder for Tottenham Hotspur is an excellent way to kick off this article.

In FIFA 14, Dele only had a rating of 54, before jumping to 55 in FIFA 15. After he moved to Tottenham from MK Dons, the wonder boy received an overall rating of 84 in FIFA 18, a score likely helped by winning the Young Player of the Year award in 2017. He may have dropped back to 83 in FIFA 20, but with the recent appointment of Jose Mourinho as Tottenham manager, Dele might very well see some upwards growth.

19. Highest-Rated FIFA Players of All Time: Franck Ribery

Okay, now we are talking high ratings. Bayern Munich legend Franck Ribery may have left the club in 2019 for Serie A, but FIFA fans across the globe will always remember when the French winger received an overall rating of 90 in both FIFA 13 and 14.

17. Highest-Rated FIFA Players of All Time: John Terry

FIFA 08 was a good one for John Terry as EA Sports awarded him an overall rating of 90. It’s a high score, sure, but what stands out more is that John Terry was ranked after the following legends: Ronaldinho, Cristiano Ronaldo, Gianluigi Buffon, and Kaka. So, you know, not a terrible group.

16. Highest-Rated FIFA Players of All Time: Eden Hazard

There’s a pattern here. Just as Modrić’s rating increased after he left the Premier League to go to Real Madrid, so too did Eden Hazard’s. When the Belgian left Chelsea Football Club for Real Madrid, the attacking midfielder’s career began to thrive, and his FIFA rating went up at a steady rate. In FIFA 20, Hazard has a total score of 91.

15. Highest-Rated FIFA Players of All Time: Harry Kane

Tottenham’s own Harry Kane earned a score of 91 in FIFA 19, which was a nice bump on his stats from 2018’s FIFA game, where he scored 89 and has since gone back to in FIFA 20. Still, his rating of 91 in FIFA 19 is a memorable score as it comes after the 26-year old added a World Cup golden boot to his tally.

14. Highest-Rated FIFA Players of All Time: Lilian Thuram

Playing for Juventus at the time, which had a disappointing season, Lilian Thuram still earned an overall rating of 92 in FIFA 05.

A quick side note: the 2005 edition of the game labels Thuram as a right-back, despite switching positions to center-back after Fabio Capello was appointed Juventus manager in 2004. You may want to use this to your advantage.

He is the G.O.A.T., so he deserves his own spot on this list. In the most recent installment of the FIFA video game, FIFA 20, released in September 2019, Lionel Messi was given an overall rating of 94. A few months after the release of the video game, Messi won the Ballon d’Or for the sixth time in his career.

Ronaldinho is a Barcelona legend, and the attacking midfielder earned his highest FIFA rating ever on FIFA 06, with EA Sports giving him an overall score of 95. The rating followed Ronaldinho winning the Ballon d’Or in 2005, so not a bad period for the Brazilian.

You knew it was coming, didn’t you? Buffon is an Italian legend, and despite having a miserable 2003–04 season in which Italian club Juventus finished third in Serie A, Buffon still managed to earn an overall rating of 97 in FIFA 05.

FIFA 03 was an interesting one, especially for Matteo Brighi. The 21-year old at the time received an overall rating of 97 in that year’s installment, making him one of the highest-rated players, and even beating cover stars Roberto Carlos and Thierry Henry. He was good, but many still wonder why he was rated so highly in this game. We suppose, however, for Brighi and his fans, no one is going to question it.

1. Highest-Rated FIFA Players of All Time: Thierry Henry

FIFA 05 produced some mad rankings, with Arsenal’s star Thierry Henry receiving an overall rating of 97.
